PURE JUICE

PURE JUICE

“GIVE YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM A NEW LEASE ON LIFE.” – PAVI
Pineapple/Ginger/Turmeric Fresh Squeezed Juice

As an avid juicer for years, I do not purchase juices at the grocery store but juice my fruits and herbs at home. This way, one knows what is in the bottle.

With COVID-19 slashing dashes between spaces at enormous speed, protecting one’s immune system is a necessity! Being conscious of what goes into one’s bodily temple is extremely important nowadays; therefore, here is a natural concoction to heal and soothe the temple, plus it is scrumptious! All you need are four ingredients: fresh pineapple, fresh ginger root, fresh mint leaves, and fresh turmeric root. Place all the ingredients into a juicer, which turns the ingredients into a golden hue of delicious juice. Take a shot throughout the day for maximum health.

If you are new to the art of juicing, try the Breville line of juicers. Williams-Sonoma stocks different versions at great prices, from the novice to the master juicer. The juice is displayed in an Italian glass bottle from Amazon and extracted by the Breville Juice Fountain Cold, XL.

RECIPE: Use 1-2 Pineapples; 1 large piece of ginger root; 1 large piece of turmeric root, and a bunch of fresh mint leaves. Wash and rinse all fruits and herbs. Core and slice the pineapple, chop the ginger and turmeric root into bite-size pieces to place into the juicer chute.

Juicing from home every day is a shore thang for optimum health!

Bon Appetit!

3-Steps to a Well-Stocked Pantry

December 15, 2020 By admin No Comments

As we all continue to find solace in our humble abodes, nourishing meals are necessary for healthy immune systems.

Winter 2020 is slowly approaching in the Northern Hemisphere and will descend upon us on Monday, December 21st.  Snow will blanket the beaches, and leaves will swiftly leave our trees bare, so now is the perfect moment to embark upon writing a list of non-perishable items to stock the pantry.

Use the 3-Step Guide: (1) access what the pantry currently holds; (2) when to use it by; or (3) whether to toss it. Believe it or not, pantry items expire! Items such as baking soda, baking powder, rice, nuts, and oils last around 6-months on the shelves. Brown rice and nuts become rancid quickly, so store in plastic containers or freezer bags inside the refrigerator. Cooking oils turn rancid after about 3-months once unsealed, so forgo the larger containers unless you cook for an army: store flour, cornmeal, oats, and quinoa in the refrigerator for longevity.

Upgrade your pasta with legume-based pasta such as chickpeas and lentils, which is healthier than brown rice. Ditto for rice; venture into black rice such as Forbidden Rice, which contains more protein than brown rice, and is delicious with a delightful nutty flavor.

During the pandemic is a great time to be less carnivore and more plant-based, which is better for the immune system. Splurge on heirloom beans from Rancho Gordo. Try the French Cassoulet beans, midnight black beans, or pinto beans; all are superb and superior to any store package beans on the market.

Another excellent source for flavorful beans hails from the Creole country of New Orleans. My late godmother introduced me to Camellia beans over 35-years ago, and they still rank first place over all other brands. Try an assortment of beans such as red kidney beans, field peas, black-eyed peas, cannellini beans, garbanzo beans, black beans, lima beans, and navy beans, all from the comfort of your home and a few strokes.

This winter, for a bountiful pantry, start stocking it with these items:

Flours: Almond, Coconut, Cake, Whole-Wheat and Unbleached White

Cacao: Droste Dutch Chocolate Powder, Guittard Unsweetened Chocolate Baking Bars & Bittersweet Chocolate Baking Bars

Nuts & Dried Fruits: Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts, Pecans, Pistachios, Dates, Cranberries, Raisins, and Sun-dried Tomatoes

Oils: Extra-Virgin Olive Oil (Cold-Pressed), Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Truffle Oil, Sesame Oil, Peanut Oil

Canned & Bottled: Tonnino Tuna (Best on the market), Italian Plum Tomatoes, Chicken Broth, Capers, Olives, Tabasco, Mustard (variety), Vinegar (Braggs Apple Cider, Aged-Balsamic, White Distilled, Red Wine, Rice), Sherry, Braggs Coconut Liquor Aminos, Tamari Soy Sauce, Oyster Sauce, Fish Sauce, Mayonnaise, Pickles

Sweeteners: Coconut Sugar, Raw Honey, Pure Maple Syrup, Dark & Light Brown Sugar, Molasses (Dark & Light), Powdered Sugar

Pasta: Fettuccine, Angel Hair, Penne, Orzo, Lasagna, Macaroni, Bucatini

Miscellaneous: Panko Bread Crumbs, Grits (Palmetto Farms), Cornmeal (Palmetto Farms), Polenta, Oatmeal, Almond Milk, Rice Milk, Cashew Milk, Real Popcorn

Dried Beans: Green Lentils, Black-Eye Peas, Cannellini, Split Peas

Rice: Jasmine Rice, Basmati Rice, Brown Rice

Small changes pack ample nutrition and scrumptious flavors!

DETOX AT HOME

Detox at Home

DETOX AT HOME

Creating beautiful skin is still possible, even if you were not blessed with such at birth. The creation starts with taking care of the skin you are presently in at the moment. To do so requires little more than a natural fiber brush and good old elbow work.

Grab a natural fiber brush and brush your skin all over before showering or bathing in circles toward the heart. Avoid the tender areas around the breast. I use two brushes; one is short and the other possesses a long handle to completely reach the back area.

This kind of skin-brushing done daily is one of the simplest yet most effective treatments for lumpy thighs and hips, not to mention cheap.

Dry brushing does two things: (1) eliminates toxic waste through the surface of the skin, not only in one’s cellulite areas but over the entire body; and (2) stimulates lymphatic drainage all over the body.

After showering, slightly towel dry off and place a light oil like sesame, almond or if those are too expensive for your budget; use a plain organic extra virgin olive oil all over the body, So grab a natural fiber brush and get busy!

IT’S A SHORE THANG!

ANATOMY OF CREDIT CARD INTEREST

September 21, 2020 By admin No Comments

This month’s post is not about the beach, but it may help you get to your dream of owning a beach or lake house quicker.

Have you ever opened your credit card bill and said: Wow, my balance does not seem to be moving? Well, here is why.

Let’s say your Citibank credit card balance is $2000 with a 2% minimum monthly payment, and a 21% Annual Percentage Rate (APR).

To calculate your Minimum Monthly Payment: Take the $2000 balance and multiply it by your minimum monthly payment percentage due ($2000 x .02 = $40), which equates to $40.

To calculate your Monthly Percentage Rate: Take the APR and divide it by 12 (12 symbolizes the number of months in a calendar year). So, in this case, we have a 21% APR. So, divide (21/12=1.75%) to determine the minimum monthly percentage rate of your balance due each month. In this scenario, the monthly percentage rate is 1.75 of the $2000 balance.

Now, let’s calculate the Monthly Interest Payment. Take the credit card balance and multiply it by your Monthly Percentage Rate. For example, $2000 x 1.75% (.0175) equates to $35.00. So, the amount of interest being added to the credit card balance this month is $35.00.

Finally, let’s see how much the credit card balance decreases this month. So, a credit card payment of $ 40 is mailed to Citibank. Citibank takes the $40 payment and charges you $35 in interest fees and applies $5 toward your balance. As one can see, the $40 payment only reduces the original balance of $2000 to $1995. It will take you eons to just pay off $1900.00 because Citibank and all your other cards will take their cut first, and then apply the remainder toward your balance.

Looks like it might take you a very long time to purchase that dream cottage on the beach unless you stop spending money you do not have. Credit cards are great if you pay the entire balance every month, pay an extra $50 to $100 toward the principal amount or pay bi-monthly to cut interest cost—some institutions need to be informed that the extra money goes towards principal only. If not, use cash. Become the banker and start stashing those interest payments in an account for that dream beach cottage.

Seas the Day!

It’s a beach thang!

3 Lemon Detox Drinks

August 4, 2020 By admin No Comments

Delicious Tangy Lemons

Kickstart your immune system with some lemon water. A few simple ingredients can detox your body and put your immune system on the right track.

Drink One: Grab some fresh organic lemons and wash them to remove the sticky residue. Cut the lemon in half and place one half into a lemon hand presser at a time. Place the flesh of the lemon face down towards the holes in the presser. Just squeeze the two handles to extract the delicious fresh lemon juice. Dispose of the pulp, pith, and seeds. Stir the fresh juice into 8 ounces of water and drink. Add a straw to save tooth enamel erosion.

Drink Two: Fetch some fresh organic lemons, fresh sprigs of mint, cucumber, fresh ginger root, and water. Slice lemons thinly. Peel fresh ginger root and slice into thin rounds. Wash and slice the cucumber into rings. Do not peel the cucumber. Wash the fresh sprigs of mint. I leave the mint on the sprigs and stuff about 3-4 springs in the pitcher. Just place everything into a pitcher and fill with water. Stir the ingredients and place the pitcher into the refrigerator. Drink all day to quench your thirst and hydrate your skin. Refill the pitcher for 1 to 2 days with water.

Drink Three: Fetch some lemons, fresh strawberries, basil, and sprigs of fresh mint. Wash and assemble all the ingredients into a pitcher, and fill with filtered water. Stir the ingredients and enjoy!

It’s a shore thang!

Fabulist Plant-Based Summer Skin

OSEA

Everything about the sea is fascinating! Think about it, the sea provides food, enjoyment, beauty, a mode of transportation, minerals, and natural products for our daily skincare.

Osea is the appropriate name for my summer skincare regimen. This line provides “bioavailable formulas rich in the essences of the earth and ocean.” It feels and smells lovely and takes me to one of my favorite places every morning and evening, the sea.

OSEA
“Results You Can Sea!” — OSEA

The morning regimen consists of using a quarter size of Ocean Cleanser, a plant-based seaweed cleansing gel with lactic acid on my face, and gently scrubbing with a sea sponge. The Ocean Cleanser contains algae, cypress oil, jojoba seed oil, juniper leaf essential oil, and vegan fermented beet lactic acid. Then top it off with a spray of Sea Mineral Mist to tone the skin. Follow that up with a few dabs of Blemish Balm, which is great for oily skin and breakout-prone skin. This light moisturizer contains three types of seaweed, tree tea oil, and juniper and thyme essential oils. It gives my skin a matte dewy finish, which is divine.

The evening regimen consists of using the Ocean Cleanser, Sea Mineral Mist, and twice a week use the age-defying White Algae Mask to brighten my skin. The best part is you can leave the mask on overnight and wash off in the morning.  The mask contains Mineral Peptides to firm and plump, Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate, and Resveratrol to brighten the skin. I love this mask!

Is your skin screaming for hydration? Reclaim your body glow with a concoction of seaweed and the luscious seed oils of acai, babassu, and passion fruit in a bottle of Undaria Algae Body Oil. Smooth this lavish oil all over your body for a beautiful sheen. It is non-greasy and packed with potent vitamins, nutrients, and minerals to boost a beautiful sheen. Follow up your oil splash with the silky sea mineral formula of Anti-Aging Body Balm, illuminating the skin and improving skin elasticity. It truly is “skincare powered by the sea!”

This regimen truly fuels my passion for the sea—give it a try at http://www.oseamalibu.com/.

HYDRANGEAS FEEL LIKE SUMMER

June 3, 2020 By admin No Comments

The hydrangea still hails as Cape Cods quintessential flower that lines the windows and yards of most homes from Maine to Martha’s Vineyard.

As a seasonal vacationer of Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, on the tiny island of Martha’s Vineyard, I love viewing the flower boxes and yards draped in vibrant and colorful hydrangeas.

I recall the first time stepping foot on the island and pulling up at my late friend Anne’s home. As my eyes set on the blueberry hydrangeas lining the sides of her home, she told me to cut as many as possible to fragrant the house, as though she had read my mind.

The temperamental hydrangea became one of my favorite flowers. I learned how to care for and sustain them for more extended periods.

To sustain hydrangeas, when they droop, snip them at the bottom and place in hot water to revive. This one little procedure will have your hydrangeas lasting for at least two weeks.
